It seems as if there is a good chance Amare Stoudemire is going to be leaving the Phoenix Suns this off-season. If Phoenix offers Stoudemire a maximum contract, he will likely stay. But with the collective bargaining agreement expiring, and the fact that he is often injured and lazy, Phoenix may opt to wish Stoudemire luck in his future endeavors. But with Steve Nash still on the roster, Phoenix is not rebuilding. And thus, they could make a play for free agent David Lee. Lee has put up great numbers in recent years for the Knicks, but will likely get booted in favor of superstars that the Knicks are going after. Lee is no Stoudemire in terms of talent, but his passion and durability surpasses Amare’s. D-Lee could be a good fit for the Suns.

Losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Finals was the worst nightmare for Phoenix Suns fans. It added another playoff series lost to the last ten years or so. And more importantly, this could have been their last chance.

Many looked disappointed that the Suns fell short yet again. But, Amare Stoudemire looked more relieved than disappointed. Like many others in the upcoming free agent class, Stoudemire is looking forward to cashing in and making millions of dollars, while choosing a destination. If he leaves, there goes any glimpse of hope of Steve Nash winning a title for the Suns.

Without Amare, it would not leave the Suns with too much. Aside from Nash, they would still have many solid, nice, complimentary players. But they could kiss any hope of coming close to the NBA Finals goodbye.

The Suns look like they may exit the playoffs once again.

With game two coming up in the NBA Western Conference Finals, the Phoenix Suns are facing the possibility of going down 2-0 in the series. If they go down 2-0, they can be counted out. And unfortunately for the Suns, this may be their last year to compete for a championship with this core. While players such as Shaquille O’Neal and Shawn Marion have come and gone, Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire have been in Phoenix during this run that has lasted almost a decade. However, time is running out. Nash is still excellent, but can only play for so long. And with the 2010 off-season coming up, who knows what is in store for Amare Stoudemire.

Most of America is rooting for the Suns. Steve Nash is a very likeable player, and if you don’t want Grant Hill to win a championship, then you have no soul. But unfortunately, standing between the Suns and a date in the NBA Finals are the defending champions. And if Kobe and company have their way, it looks like the Suns will add another playoff exit to their never-ending list.

The Suns looked much more like a contender than the "overachiever" label they've carried throughout the season in a 100-86 win at Utah on Wednesday, locking up the third seed in the West while sending the Jazz tumbling to fifth.

Phoenix will host No. 6 seed Portland on Sunday in the first round of the playoffs.

"It was a great way to finish the regular season — for a team that was picked by many to be on the outside looking into the playoffs or at the bottom of the playoff list," said Steve Nash, who had 11 assists in just three quarters. "To finish third in the West is rewarding. And most importantly we're playing well and heading into the playoffs fairly good."

Steve Nash heard the whispers in the offseason. He chose to ignore them. Opting to re-sign with the Phoenix Suns sure looks to have been the right decision for the All-Star point guard.

Jason Richardson scored 29 points, Nash added 21 points and tied his season-high with 20 assists and the Suns beat the Philadelphia 76ers 119-115 on Monday night.

"I was a free agent and it was natural to explore my options," Nash said. "Some people said I was a little crazy going back to Phoenix because I wouldn't have as good a chance to win. I liked the team and coaches and I was comfortable."

Steve Nash had 23 points and 15 assists and the Phoenix Suns returned to the Portland's old Memorial Coliseum much same way they left it — with a victory over the Trail Blazers. The Suns spoiled Portland's retro return to the birthplace of "Rip City" with a 110-104 preseason win on Wednesday night. Leandro Barbosa scored 25 points, 12 of them in the fourth quarter.

Blazers center Greg Oden continued to show marked improvement over last season with 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Oden joked afterward about how the game was a trip back in time, except for one small detail: The team's floor was brought over from the Rose Garden next door.

"It was our floor. If we would have a different floor it would have felt different," he said. "I did enjoy it, despite the loss."

The Suns offered Nash a two-year, $20 million extension two weeks ago in addition to the $13.1 million he’s owed next season, then bumped it higher in a meeting in Las Vegas last Wednesday attended by Suns owner Robert Sarver, president of basketball operations Steve Kerr and Nash’s agent Bill Duffy.
