Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin sat out practice with a sore right hamstring Wednesday and probably will miss Friday night’s preseason game against the Green Bay Packers.
Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt says Boldin felt a problem with the hamstring late in practice Tuesday, but an MRI showed no serious injury.
The Cardinals also might be without wide receiver Steve Breaston, who has been sidelined with a bruised knee. If both miss the game, Jerheme Urban would move up to No. 2 receiver behind Larry Fitzgerald.

Arizona Cardinals second-round draft pick Cody Brown is out for the season with a dislocated left wrist. The linebacker from Connecticut, the 63rd overall pick, was injured in the Cardinals’ 17-6 preseason loss to the San Diego Chargers on Saturday night.
Coach Ken Whisenhunt said the wrist was put back into place after the game but will require surgery to repair ligament damage once the swelling goes down.
There was some good news, though, on Monday when Arizona’s first-round draft pick, running back Beanie Wells, had his best workout since spraining his right ankle in his first training camp practice.
“He looked good today. He looked explosive, looked fast, moved around well out there on the field,” Whisenhunt said. “Hopefully that will progress during the week and we can get some good work out of him in the game this week.”

Arizona State University senior defensive end Dexter Davis has been named to the Watch List for the 2009 Chuck Bednarik Award, presented annually to the nation’s top defensive player. Davis is one of 55 players on the watch list and one of nine from the Pac-10.
One of ASU’s most consistent defenders over the last three seasons, Davis (Phoenix, Ariz.) has started all 38 games of his Sun Devil career. Davis is the only returning player in the nation to record back-to-back double digit sack seasons. He led ASU with 11.0 last year, and has 27.5 in his career. He earned honorable mention All-Pac-10 in 2008, thanks to his 40 tackles, 15.0 for loss and two forced fumbles. Davis has totaled 113 career tackles, 39 for loss and eight forced fumbles.
The Chuck Bednarik Award has been presented since 1995 and is named in honor of Chuck Bednarik, a former University of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia Eagle great. Mr. Bednarik is a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame 69′ and the NFL Hall of Fame 67′.

Rookie running back Beanie Wells returned to practice, sort of, as the Arizona Cardinals gathered for their final five days of training camp in the pines of northern Arizona.
Wells took part in individual drills but, to his surprise, was held out of the offense-versus-defense part of Sunday’s late afternoon workout.
“I thought I was practicing today,” he said, laughing. “I did, but they didn’t give me any reps.”
Arizona’s first-round draft pick out of Ohio State had not practiced since he sprained his right ankle in his first workout after signing with the Cardinals two weeks ago.
Coach Ken Whisenhunt says he kept Wells out of the team portion of the workout because he didn’t want to rush the player back too fast.
“We don’t want to have a setback,” Whisenhunt said. “I think Beanie’s going to be begging to get some reps off here in the near future, so be careful what you wish for, right?”

The trade of second baseman Felipe Lopez left the D-backs with a hole.
It also gave Ryan Roberts an opportunity.
Roberts has gotten the bulk of the playing time since the trade, and the more he plays at second base, the more comfortable he gets. It’s the same at the plate, where the more consistent at-bats he gets, the better his numbers.

Arizona right-hander Yusmeiro Petit knew he was pitching well, but until he was halfway to history he didn’t realize just how good.
Petit eventually lost his bid for the no-hitter when Ronny Cedeno lined a single to left with no outs in the eighth, but wound up winning his second straight start as the D-backs one-hit the Pirates for a 6-0 victory Tuesday night in front of 11,294 at PNC Park.
The season has been anything but smooth for Petit, who after allowing six earned runs in 4 1/3 innings to the Pirates 10 days ago seemed to be on the verge of losing his spot in the rotation

Brandon Webb got the news he was hoping for Monday. The D-backs’ right-hander underwent successful minor surgery on his right shoulder in Arlington, Texas, which revealed that he did not have any tears in his labrum.
Instead, Dr. Keith Meister performed what is known as a debridement, which is the surgical removal of lacerated, devitalized or contaminated tissue. Webb said that some shaving was done to the labrum area where it was frayed. The so-called gravel has kept Webb from pitching since Opening Day this year, but he said he was told that he should be ready to go for Spring Training next season.
