The D-backs have added green to its team colors. The team, in partnership with Arizona Public Service Co., will be using renewable energy during the seven-game homestand starting Thursday against the Pittsburgh Pirates and concluding with the Philadelphia Phillies. Selected D-backs fans attending games will receive compact fluorescent bulbs and free energy home audits, courtesy of APS.
The APS Green Homestand will be powered by renewable energy purchased from a “green-e certified” provider that will cover the entire energy needs of Chase Field for the homestand. The total energy displaced is 1,820,000 kWh, which is equivalent to the energy needed to power 6,500 homes for a week. Moreover, the total energy displaced is equivalent to a reduction in water consumption by more than 424,060 gallons of water, which is enough to serve the needs of 216 homes for a week, and a reduction in carbon dioxide (C02) emissions by 1,670 pounds, the equivalent to removing six cars off the road for one week.

The Cardinals and former Bengals offensive tackle Levi Jones apparently are interested in each other, but neither side is motivated enough now to do anything about it.
Jones’ agent, Kenny Zuckerman, confirmed an ESPN.com report that the Cardinals had expressed interest in Jones. But Jones is looking to be paid like a starter should he win a job, and the Cardinals aren’t willing to give that assurance, Zuckerman said. “They (the Cardinals) wanted to sign him a while ago but it’s not in his best interest unless the contract they gave him guarantees that he would be paid commensurate with how much he was going to play,” Zuckerman said.

After receiving an improved offer last week and taking a few more days to deliberate, two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Steve Nash notified the Phoenix Suns over the weekend that he is accepting the Suns’ two-year extension offer worth an estimated $22 million, according to team sources.
The Suns offered Nash a two-year, $20 million extension two weeks ago in addition to the $13.1 million he’s owed next season, then bumped it higher in a meeting in Las Vegas last Wednesday attended by Suns owner Robert Sarver, president of basketball operations Steve Kerr and Nash’s agent Bill Duffy.

The Phoenix Coyotes have signed defenseman Keith Yandle to a two-year contract.
The 22-year-old Yandle had four goals and 26 assists in 69 games with Phoenix last season. His 30 points were second most among Coyotes defensemen. Yandle was Phoenix’s fourth-round pick, the 105th choice overall, in the 2005 draft.

The Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies are NL West rivals. Now they’re partners in a spring training facility planned for the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community near Phoenix.
Under an agreement announced Thursday, the tribe will build an 11,000-seat ballpark and a complex that includes 12 practice fields, training facilities and offices. The facility is expected to be ready for the 2011 exhibition season. The 140-acre site is adjacent to Scottsdale. It is believed to be the first major league spring training facility on tribal land.

The Phoenix Suns want to see how Amare Stoudemire returns from eye surgery before offering him a contract extension.
The All-Star forward missed the rest of the season after a Feb. 20 operation to repair a partially detached retina, and last week he underwent another procedure as part of the recovery process. After a workout at U.S. Airways Center last week, Stoudemire said he believes he deserves a maximum extension.
Stoudemire can become a free agent after next season, but he has said he’d like to remain with the team that drafted him in the first round in 2002 — as long as the Suns are contenders. Phoenix missed the playoffs last season.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have been a different team since the biggest blown lead in their history.
All-Star Justin Upton matched a career high with four hits, Jon Garland allowed one run in eight innings and the Diamondbacks beat the Florida Marlins 5-1 on Saturday night.
The Diamondbacks have won back-to-back games and outscored Florida 13-1 since the Marlins hit them with a 10-spot in the eighth inning of the series opener, when Arizona let a 7-0 lead turn into a 14-7 loss

Grant Hill will return to the Phoenix Suns for $3 million next season and a player option for a second year, his agent said Friday.
Lon Babby said Hill received interest from seven teams, narrowed his choices to the Suns, New York Knicks and Boston Celtics and decided on Phoenix “largely because he feels he has unfinished business there. The Suns placed their faith in him. He didn’t want to leave Phoenix on a sour note.”
Hill, 36, was on a Hall of Fame track early in his career but has been derailed by injuries. He achieved a personal triumph this past season by playing in all 82 games for the first time, but the Suns failed to make the playoffs.
Even though Phoenix traded Shaquille O’Neal to the Cleveland Cavaliers this summer and Amare Stoudemire has been mentioned in trade discussions as well, Babby said, “Grant assessed the quality of the team he would be returning to in Phoenix and feels comfortable they are going to be extremely competitive, and they’re excited about that.”
